Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, I was raised by parents who are big supporters of the arts, always encouraging my brother and me to express ourselves creatively. It came as no surprise then when I decided to head for the bright lights of New York City and enroll in Columbia University. True to my roots and my passions, I graduated from college with a double degree in Theater and Jewish History.
Life takes many twists and turns and my path eventually led me to the world of special events. After spending 5+ years planning weddings and events for one of Chicago’s top caterers, learning the ins and outs of the Chicago events scene, The Ideal Day was born.
I am committed to creating a culture that reflects the diversity of my clients. I promote the celebrations of everyone without regard to race, color, religious affiliation, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender.
I always love to work with clients who share a desire to collaborate and who aren’t afraid to try something different. My ideal clients understand, as I do, that wedding planning is serious business, but don’t take themselves too seriously.
I work especially well with clients who value the overall guest experience and prioritize treating their family and friends like VIPs from start to finish.
I am a recent transplant to the north shore of Chicago and now live in Highland Park with my family – husband Joel, son Micah and daughter Tamar.
My own wedding was definitely part drama (a Jewish wedding in smalltown Georgia) and part comedy
(ok, it’s true….I rolled into my reception wearing rollerskates).
I love to be outside with my family and enjoy living close to the lake! On weekends off, you will find me endlessly window shopping, enjoying live music or eating out and enjoying good times with family and great friends.
If I can give one piece of advice to future brides out there.... it's hire Laura! Seriously, I feel like as a bride you can have 1,000 great, fun, creative, and unique ideas... but you need someone to help see those through. You need someone who can be seeing that your ideas are brought to life smoothly, so you can simply enjoy your day. Laura has this skill perfected, and she manages to do it with the sweetest smile!
After contacting a few day-of-coordinators, my husband and I decided on Laura and The Ideal Day... she was prompt to respond and extremely personable (even through email, which I found not to be the case with many people). After every conversation/email/phone call with Laura, I felt more and more relief about our wedding... the stress had been lifted and all thanks to her!!
A key asset Laura has is her familiarity with many major Chicago vendors. She knew the ropes with our caterer, venue, musicians, photo booth and more. She often knew the specific individuals with whom we were working, making it easy to hand off vendor communication during the final days.
Laura is everything you want in a wedding coordinator: highly organized, knowledgeable, calm under fire, and simply fun to be around. I could tell early on that she had extensive industry knowledge and that I could trust her to handle everything perfectly. Our wedding was perfectly smooth without feeling overly orchestrated, which I credit to Laura.
Laura Patterson is easy to communicate with, intuitive, fun, energetic and flexible to work with. She handled meetings and coordination in a very professional manner and kept detailed records and notes throughout the planning process. We had a short time-line to work with and she kept nerves and worries under control with grace and a positive, helpful attitude. The wedding rehearsal, ceremony and reception went off beautifully-everyone had a wonderful time and the bride, groom and bridal party were confident she was on top of every detail. (even those we weren't aware of!)
